Vengeful: A Review

Hello all!

I’ve finished my first book of 2019, and it was definitely a five star read (of course it was,  it was a Victoria Schwab book). I finished reading Vengeful on the train home today from a day out with two of my uni friends and wow – it was such an amazing book! I really couldn’t put it down.

As you probably already know, I loved Vicious when I read it last year, and bought Vengeful not long after I finished it, but only just got around to reading it. I loved the characters, especially Victor, but I also loved the plot – it was full of shocks and kept me hooked. I felt the exact same about Vengeful. I still loved the characters (although they are definitely morally ambiguous), I loved the way they were written, and I loved the plot of this book! I really enjoyed meeting new characters in this book as well, especially Marcella and June! I thought their dynamic was great, and Marcella was so different to how I expected her to be. I’d seen tweets about her when the book came out and was curious, but wow, her character was so well-written! I loved the developments from Vicious and I loved seeing the returning characters (no spoilers) in new situations, and new characters interacting with them.

I thought the plot of this book was amazing. I loved seeing the different storylines coinciding, and seeing how they intertwined. It made me love the book even more, and is one of the reasons why I really couldn’t put it down. I found myself in work early a few times this week, and spent the majority of the time before my shift reading. I also spent a lot of evenings this week reading, which is something I’ve not found myself doing after work really. This really sums up how great I thought the book was, it was such an exciting read!

The structure of this book was perfect; the chapter lengths were great, the book length was perfect, I just loved everything about it. I think it’s safe to say that Victoria Schwab has very easily become one of my favourite authors, and so far I’ve loved all of her books. I’m planning on reading the rest of them now this year, including the Steel Prince comics (which I managed to find in the comic book shop the other day).

I have one downside to this book: I didn’t want it to end because I wanted to know more and what happens next. It was a great ending that answered a lot of questions but, like Vicious, it was left open enough that if Schwab wanted to write a sequel she could, but if not, it’s good as it is.

As you can probably tell, I really enjoyed this book. I’m looking forward to rereading this and Vicious again in the future. Victoria Schwab is an amazing author, and I’m so glad I decided to read her books last year, and I’m excited to read the rest this year!

If you’ve read Vengeful as well, let me know. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!
