Good Omens: A Review

I’m going to be honest, I only wanted to read this book because of the Amazon Prime series starting at the end of this month, but boy, was it a good read!

12067The premise behind this book got me intrigued straight away: the world is ending that Saturday around tea time, Crowley (from Hell) and Aziraphale (from Heaven) have lived on Earth for years and actually quite like it, Good and Evil are preparing for their final battle, and…someone has misplaced the antichrist! If that doesn’t get you interested, I don’t know what would.

I found this book to be really fun and quirky. It had a large cast of characters (who I struggled to keep up with at first – I listened to the audiobook) but it was great. Crowley was my favourite character from the moment we met him; I loved that he drove around in a beautiful car listening to Queen (albeit, not of any choice of his own), and that he was so funny. The only issue I had with this audiobook is that I think I listened to it quite passively and found myself missing parts and having to go back and relisten to them. I think this was mostly because of the long passages and the amount of description used by the authors, but nevertheless I enjoyed the book a lot.

I did like that the story took place over such a short space of time, but I feel like a lot happened in such a short period that it was a bit confusing from time to time. I wish there had been more definitive chapters, rather than just the days, as I found myself wanting to finish a chapter, but not being able to in a short time as they were so long. This meant stopping part-way through action/a scene, and half the time I’d forgotten fully what was going on by the time I went back to continue.

I would definitely recommend this book is you’re a fan of fantasy/sci-fi books as it really has a bit of something for everyone. I’m really looking forward to the series, especially now that I’ve read this, so that I can see the differences between the two! Not to mention, it has some of my favourite actors in it!!

Overall I gave this book 4/5 stars on Goodreads. I enjoyed it but I think I’ll have to reread it in the future, and see how I feel about it then too.

I apologise that my last couple of reviews have been so short/all over the place, I’ve not made many notes when reading/listening and don’t want to spoil too much of certain books so I didn’t want to go into too much detail. I’m hoping that my next couple will be a bit longer!

Have you read this book? Did you enjoy it? Let me know!

  1. Lovely Review!
I didn’t know there was a new TV series coming up!!
The concept sounds quite interesting so
I will keep an eye out for this book!!

Did you by any chance watch Umbrella Academy on Netflix yet? This one too follows almost similar concept of “The World is ending in seven days”.
