The 10 Highest Rated Books I’ve Read

I’ve seen this in video format and loved it (on Drinking By My Shelf and Bookish Thoughts’ channels) and wanted to do it in blog format! The idea behind this is to sort the books you’ve read by average rating (highest to lowest) and see whether you agree or disagree. Like the two videos I’ve linked above, I am only going to count one book from each series, for example if all seven Harry Potter books are on the list, I will only talk about the highest rated one.

1. The first book on this list is Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo. This has an average rating of 4.6/5 and I agree with it wholeheartedly. I loved this book and duology so much! I loved being able to continue following the Dregs’ story and seeing what other antics they got up to.
2. Next on the list is Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. This has an average rating of 4.58/5. Again, this is a book I absolutely adored!! This is the third book in The Infernal Devices trilogy, a series that I loved and is probably one of my favourite series of all time. I love the characters, I love the setting, I love the relationships! It was an amazing book and I really need to read the The Dark Artifices and Chain of Gold!
3. Next up is Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff. This book has an average rating of 4.56/5. Again, I think this book deserves to be on this list because of how great it is! I loved Nevernight and I loved the sequel even more (and Darkdawn as well!). I only read this series because of how hyped it was and how much some of my favourite booktubers were talking about it, and I loved it! I’ve reread the first two books and I loved them even more the second time around! I love the setting of Godsgrave so much and how the story progresses, all of the twists and turns!
4. Now we have a book that I expected to be right at the top: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling. This book has an average of 4.57. This series, as you are probably aware by now, is my favourite book series, and has been since I was little. I am a bit shocked that this book in particular is the highest rated out of the series (because, as I’ve mentioned many times, Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite) but I get why it is so highly rated. This book deals with so much and has some of my favourite moments in it. I love seeing some of the character developments and seeing more of certain characters (mostly Ginny, she’s so great in the books, I wish they’d done her justice in the films, I wish there was more of badass Ginny in the films).
5. Then every other Harry Potter book was on the list after Half-Blood Prince but the next non-Potter book is: Obsidio by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman, which has an average rating of 4.54/5. Again, I agree with this book being on the list. I love the Illuminae Files and I loved this book. This is the third book in the trilogy and I loved seeing where characters we knew already were and seeing what happened to them/their situations (trying not to spoil anything). This book definitely deserves to be on this book! I need a reread of this soon!!
6. Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman is number 6 on this list. It has an average rating of 4.51/5. Again, this is another sequel on this list and again, I agree! I loved this book so much, and Scythe! I didn’t enjoy The Toll as much as the first two books, but I still enjoyed it. I loved Thunderhead, so much happened in it after everything that happened in Scythe! I love the concept of the books and the characters, it’s a great trilogy and again, another series that I’ll reread.
7. Next is my latest read: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas, which has an average rating of 4.52/5. I finished reading this book the other day and wow – I loved this book! I genuinely only bought this book because of all of the hype online when it came out, and I’m so glad I did. The first I’d even read about the book was when I just read the blurb online, just before I ordered it, and it sounded right up my street! I’m so glad I bought this book, and I’m so glad I listened to all of the hype, it’s very quickly become one of my favourite books of this year.
8. Next on the list is the bind up of all three Lord of the Rings books by J.R.R. Tolkien. This has an average rating of 4.5/5. This is deserving of being so high up on the list again, however I haven’t read this trilogy in years. I loved the trilogy when I read when I was a lot younger, but I will definitely reread it some day (along with most of this list, it seems).
9. Number 9 is a favourite book of mine from my childhood, a book which I have read my nieces and nephews countless times: The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. This has an average rating of 4.49/5. I always enjoyed reading this story, it’s a really nice one to read aloud. To this day, I still can remember a lot of the words to this, just not in the right order, but years ago I used to be able to recite this word for word off the top of my head!
10. The last book on this list is Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. This book has an average rating of 4.47. I loved this book so much! It was beautifully written, but I loved Strange the Dreamer even more. It was a beautiful book, and the best way to start the duology. Muse of Nightmares was however a gorgeous book, and does deserve to be on this list! I’m so glad this duology has made this list!!

I really enjoyed looking through the highest rated books on my Goodreads and seeing if my opinions differed: unsurprisingly, it didn’t. There were some books on here that were higher up than I thought they would have been, which was a nice surprise.
