How are we 6 months into the year already? It seems like only yesterday I was making my list of 22 books I wanted to read this year (spoiler alert, I’ve only read about 4 of them so far…)
How much have you read?
As of writing this, I’ve read 37 books and am currently reading 2.
What have you been reading?
Unsurprisingly I’ve mostly been reading fantasy and thriller books, but I’m surprised by how many romance books I’ve read so far!
And rating-wise I’ve read a lot of very good books this year. I’ve not given as many 5 stars so far, which I think is actually good. In the past I’ve definitely given books 5 stars when I could’ve given them 4 or 4.5. I like that I’m now not giving every book I read 5 stars!
Best book you’ve read so far this year?
I think the best book so far for me is impossible to choose, so here’s 3: The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow, A Show For Two by Tashie Bhuiyan, and Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
New releases you’ve not read yet but want to?
There are so many: Hotel Magnifique by Emily J. Taylor, The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea by Axie Oh, Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca May, Book of Night by Holly Black, A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy I. Lin – the list could go on forever!
Most anticipated release of the second half of the year?
It has to be Ruth Ware’s new book, The It Girl. I’ve read all (I think) of Ruth Ware’s books so far and enjoyed them all to varying degrees, so I can’t wait to read this one!
Biggest disappointment of the year so far?
This has to be The Carnival of Ash unfortunately. I had really high hopes for this book but it just wasn’t for me.
Biggest surprise of the year so far?
Another blog tour book for this one: Son of Shadow by John Lenahan. I really enjoyed this book, and I’m already looking forward to reading more from this author!
New favourite author (debut or new to you)?
I read XOXO by Axie Oh earlier this year and adored the writing so much that they have instantly become a new favourite, and as I mentioned above, I can’t wait to read The Girl Who Fell Beneath The Sea.
Underrated gems you’ve discovered this year so far?
This spot 100% has to go to Perfectly Preventable Deaths. I absolutely loved this book and I’m excited to pick up the sequel, Precious Catastrophe, later on this year.
Any rereads this year?
The only book I’ve reread so far this year is The Two Towers by J.R.R. Tolkien. I’ve been listening to the audiobooks as a reread for the first time in years and have been really enjoying them.
A book that made you cry?
So far nothing has made me cry, which is great!
A book that made you happy?
A Show For Two by Tashie Bhuiyan. I loved Tashie’s debut last year, Counting Down With You, so obviously preordered this one and devoured it within a couple of days!
Favourite book to film (or TV) adaptation?
My answer to this one has to be Netflix’s adaptation of Heartstopper. I absolutely adored this adaptation and cannot wait for the next series.
Most beautiful book you’ve bought or received?
This was a slightly edited Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag, as there were a couple of questions that I had no answer for (fictional crush and favourite post of this year). I’m hoping now in the second half of this year to be more active here and post more reviews here and on my Instagram.
